I haven’t been able to embed articles from Japanese newspapers into this blog yet so I’ll start off by sharing some info about one of our favorite non-profits here in Japan. Shine On Kids is an organization dedicated to supporting kids who have cancer or other serious illnesses. Shine On Kids introduced a special program into Japan–facility dogs who work with a nurse and visit kids who are hospitalized at pediatric cancer hospitals. Recently, they just kicked off the program at the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Center, which is the program’s third facility.
My son got to meet one of the dogs in training this May. The dog was still a puppy and so cute. I will share some more information about this great program later.
